Popcaan Speaks on Week Long Drain Cleaning Initiative “We have more gully fi clean” – Watch Video
The impressive drain cleaning project dancehall artiste Popcaan launched in the communities of his home parish, St. Thomas, has garnered lots of admiration. The deejay, along with his supportive team, embarked on their mission to spread awareness about the detrimental effects of clogged drains on the environment and the importance of maintaining clean waterways.
Popcaan, born Andre Sutherland, spoke on the initiative that he said would take several days to be completed. “This is gonna happen all week. We have more gully fi clean, like Seaforth and Bath, so this is what we doing, making sure seh the people of St Thomas start off the new year healthy and clean because a mi sing ‘clean’.”
The project that began on Monday saw the Bamboo River community in St Thomas being cleaned, an area which has experienced persistent flooding worsened by blocked drains. The community residents were no doubt elated to witness the efforts Popcaan and his team invested in the area, which they believed had been neglected by the government.
Mayor of Morant Bay Hubert Williams commended the 876Gud deejay, telling a CVM TV reporter, “Popcaan is a responsible citizen of St. Thomas, a person who loves St. Thomas… he see it as his duty to help the people of St. Thomas.”
According to Deputy Mayor Rohan Bryan, the community was cleaned during Dr. Fenton Ferguson’s six-consequence term as MP for St. Thomas Eastern. The MP for the area is now Dr. Michelle Charles, and Bryan expressed that things have changed since she became MP for St. Thomas Eastern.
Additionally, Bryan spoke to CVM about the dire need for garbage to be collected in the area, and he said the National Solid Waste Management Authority faulted the damaged roads for not being able to dispatch garbage trucks in the area.
