After having a very active 2021 season Shelly Ann-Fraser Pryce is now back on the track and awaiting her next face-off which is set to be against American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson.
Richardson got famous in 2021 after she began to run some very good times from sprinting to a personal best of 9.76 seconds in Miramar to taking the US Olympic trials in a time of 10.86 seconds. After she qualified for the Olympics, the sprinter’s high hopes of getting the Olympic title were crushed after she tested positive for marijuana.
After her return to the track in August of 2021, Sha’Carri faced off against Jamaica sprint icons Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah where she was sadly beaten to end up finishing in last place.
That very eventful moment which saw Thompson-Herah winning the event in 10.54 seconds, kicked off a whole Twitter controversy as users on the Social media platform began to highlight a picture with Fraser Pryce looking as if she was laughing at Richardson for placing last in the race. As such the American sprinter took to her social media page and began to make disrespectful comments towards the Jamaican athletes which ignited a round of backlash towards her.
To kick off her year, the American athlete will compete against the Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser at the Kip Keino Classic to be held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 7th of May, she stepped up her game in the year 2021 when she ran a personal best of 10.60 seconds in Lausanne.
What this means along with the past controversy between the two is that the showdown might just be the most interesting one for 2022 until the World Athletics Championships.
