On Saturday night in Kingston at the Velocity Fest 13 meeting, Jamaican female sprinter Shericka Jackson ran a world-leading time of 10.82secs (-0.1 m/s) to win the 100m event. The race which took place at the National Stadium in Kingston was Jackson’s season opener.

This fast time may come as a surprise to some after Jackson finished 4th in a 60m race back in February of this year. She also finished 5th in a heat, weeks earlier.

With this new time of 10.82 seconds, Jackson managed to set a meet record at Velocity Fest 13 and knocked American Aleia Hobb off the number one spot with regards to world-leading time over the short distance with Hobb running an impressive 10.89 seconds at the LSU Alumni Gold 2023 just hours earlier.

Jackson ran 11.00 in 2022 when she first started her campaign over the 100m distance.

Shericka Jackson is the reigning world 200-meter champion after she stormed to an impressive win in Oregon, USA, back in 2022.

Back in 2022, at Jamaica’s National Honours and Awards ceremony, Olympian Shericka Jackson and several others were recognised for their outstanding contributions to the country. Jackson was awarded the Order of Distinction at the rank of Commander (CD). This honour was bestowed for her exceptional achievements in the sport of track and field athletics at the national, world championship, and Olympic levels.
