Canadian rapper Tory Lanez’s wife, Raina Chassagne, has filed for divorce after less than a year of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” As per the petition, the couple does not have any communal assets or liabilities that need to be divided, and the issue of alimony will be determined by the court.
Chassagne and Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, are the parents of a 7-year-old son, Kai’lon. Chassagne is seeking legal and physical custody of Kai’lon, a decision that will further complicate Lanez’s personal life as he is currently serving a 10-year sentence at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California.
Lanez who is currently 31 years old was sentenced in August 2023 for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an incident in the Hollywood Hills in the summer of 2020.
The legal dispute between Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, gained widespread media attention. The altercation, which reportedly stemmed from a clash over their music careers, escalated into a physical confrontation.
Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez fired multiple shots at her while yelling “Dance, B***h!” as they were returning from a party. This led to Lanez being found guilty on several charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Additionally, Megan Thee Stallion claimed that Lanez offered her and her former friend Kelsey Harris, who was present during the shooting, $1 million each to remain silent about the incident. Harris confirmed this by sending a text to Megan’s security, stating, “Help / Tory shot meg / 911.”
