14yo Jamaican-born Killed in Canada

Fourteen-year-old Taffash Riley otherwise known as “Lily” was shot and killed in her apartment building in Mississauga in Ontario, Canada on Tuesday.

According to reports from the Peel Regional Police, a resident found the teen in the stairwell on the third floor suffering from a bullet wound and they responded to the scene after 9:00 p.m.

The teen was later pronounced dead by medical professionals and the police are treating her death as suspicious. The circumstances which led to Taffash Riley’s death are still being investigated by the police.

Sarah McDermott, a woman claiming to be a neighbour has started a GoFundMe account in support of returning Taffash Riley’s body back to Jamaica.

“The Riley family came from Jamaica in 2012 and do not have family here in Canada. It is just mom, dad and son. Their wish is to bring their daughter home,” wrote McDermott on the GoFundMe page. 

The GoFundMe account as of Thursday, has a total of CAD$9,525 out of its goal of CAD$15,000 goal.

Taffash Riley migrated to Ontario, Canada from Jamaica in 2012 to live with her parents and brother. She went to the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School and was in the 9th grade.
