Before Gold Cup Kick off Jamaica to Tackle the USA
Head Coach Theodore Whitmore who is seeking to strengthen his team with English based players because of the recent insipid displays, is seen as someone who is trying to make a hat-trick in the biennial Gold Cup competition finals.
The two teams tackled each other in a fiercely contested Gold Cup final in 2017 and the Jamaica Reggae Boyz were edged out 2-1. The Reggae Boyz can be fearless at times there was a time in 2015 when they shocked the US by delivering a knock-out blow in the semi-final stage.
Whitmore believes the timing of the match is good and he thinks having the US as an opponent at this time is good for his team, as he needs to assess his team and choose the best players so he can be ready to win in the future.
The pre-tournament friendly will be the first meeting between Jamaica and the USA since the US won the 2017 Gold Cup at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
This match will be played just 12 days before the first game in the Gold cup Tournament, so it is just perfect timing for the Jamaican team as the coach can now choose the best players before the tournament begins.
It would be good to see Jamaica in another international final after so many years, but the team seems to be ailing at this time.
The friendly is set to play at the Audi Field in Washington (6pm Jamaican time) this will be their third meeting in the US Capital. The boyz have been one of the two teams that have managed to beat the US in a Gold Cup semi-final.
The boyz are now seen as unlikely finalists and playing far from home is not good for them at this time, but their coach seems to be doing all he can to pull off a big upset.
