It was supposed to be a minimally invasive procedure to replace a faulty pulmonary valve in his heart but, during the surgery, the doctors detected internal bleeding which then turned it into an open heart surgery.

The incident happened in March 2018, and the shooting of ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ was just 4 months away which got him through and pushed him to recover.

The 72-year-old actor used his operation and recovery as an example for the graduates to make them understand that many obstacles like the Covid-19 will come their way and they should learn to overcome them.

Arnold also told the graduates that, no matter how successful one is, life will always throw obstacles in our way but if you have a very clear vision of exactly what you want to do, and who you want to be, you can go and find a way around all of those obstacles.

He hoped that his story of heart surgery taking an unexpected turn four months before ‘Terminator’ motivated them in these hard times.
