MARCIA GRIFFITHS Talks her Music Career from Start to Current – Queen of Regge

“I shall sing as long as i live” The queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths sat down with Teach Dem to talk about her musical career from start to current. The Kingston native explains that she was a young girl singing a song titled “wall of love” one day in her yard, 11 years old at the time when someone discovered her talent and took her to perform at The Ward Theatre in Down Town Kingston.

“From that tender age god was with me” the queen recalls being around the big-name Jamaican musicians from a young age and even though she started out at age 11, she got her big break at around age 16 with the song “I feel like jumping”.

Growing up in Anna Town was rough has only her father worked in her family however she pointed out that her mother made her and her siblings comfortable “we use to eat a lot of turn cornmeal with coconut milk and it was the nicest thing”.

She was a young school girl around a lot of male artistes but she had a relationship with Bob Andy and he protected her and helped her to move around in the male-dominated business “Meeting Bob Andy saves me from god know what”.

After “I feel like jumping” got her national recognition, next was “Words”, “Melody life”, “Truly”, “Mark My Word” and others which were written by Bob Any her partner back then.

Marcia recalls the first time she had to sing in German language while in Germany “it’s the hardest Language” she recalls.

“Young Gifted and Black” kicked off her UK career and things grew from strength to strength internationally since.

Many may not know that Marcia is family with dancehall icon Supercat, she explains “My mother is Supercat’s Aunt… we are first cousin”.
