Advocacy Network Calls Again For MP George Wright To Resign

Patricia Donald Phillips, spokesperson for the Advocates Network is again demanding the resignation of George Wright, Independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Westmoreland.
The group has been advocating for his resignation since 2021 when a viral video circulated showing him violently punching a woman and beating her with a stool. This woman was identified to be his common-law wife, Tanisha Singh.
Phillips declares that MP Wright’s resignation is treated as a matter of urgency that needs to be sent to the Ethics Committee for a decision.
The Advocates Network is also asking that Parliamentarians revisit the Motion of Suspension that was brought against MP Wright in April of 2021 after he was approved and paid two months leave of absence from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and relieved of all party duties.
Last year, in response to the many calls for MP Wright’s resignation, Prime Minister Andrew Holness had stated that MP Wright was bound by process and procedure as it relates to the law, therefore, the decision made was “justifiable”.
