Following the release of his tribute song Without You, American rapper Quavo has released his second solo single since the passing of his groupmate and nephew Takeoff. In the song, the rapper addresses the future of Migos and seemingly disses former groupmate and cousin Offset.
Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset officially parted ways in 2022 after Takeoff and Quavo confirmed that they would be continuing as a duo while promoting the release of their first album without Offset. Neither of the former groupmates has ever divulged what caused the rift in the trio that ultimately led to their split, but Quavo alluded that there was disloyalty in the group.
“We came from a loyal family that’s supposed to work together, and you’re supposed to stick together [ … ] We stand on loyalty, and sometimes that s**t ain’t displayed. Right now, we gon’ be the duo till time tell,” Quavo earlier said while speaking on the Big Facts podcast.
“I’d give away all this shit just to see my dawg just one more time [ … ] Came in, swept the game like a storm with the motherfuckin’ flow, nigga, Take’ did that. So don’t ask about the group, he gone, we gone, young nigga, it can’t come back,” Quavo sings on the new track.
Owing to Quavo and Offset’s history, One section of the track has some listeners speculating that the rapper dissed his former bandmate.
“I can’t kick it with a fake. And I won’t sleep with the snakes. I’d rather eat with the greats. I wanted peace, but I can’t. I gotta get somethin’ straight.”
