Saint Lucian artiste and Vybz Kartel collaborator Mon Chérie has accused the incarcerated dancehall artiste of giving her songs to other entertainers and displaying favouritism for Jamaican artistes.
Mon Chérie, born Cherie Stoute, has collaborated with Kartel on three different singles: Gates of Heaven, Bay Bay, and Can’t Say No. However, the artiste has shared that her musical relationship with Kartel has been less than satisfactory.
Mon Chérie voiced her dissatisfaction with Kartel in a recent video shared on her Instagram, during which she recited a statement she had written to address the deejay directly. Mon Chérie said Kartel had apparently been using her since the first time they met as a friend would never have treated her the way he did.
The Fallen singer alleged that her songs had been given to other artistes, such as Renee 6:30. According to Mon Chérie, she originally recorded Renee 6:30’s feature on Kartel and Likkle Addi’s My Own World, but Renee 6:30 ended up on the final version of the track.
Mon Chérie explained that while she respected the talent of the other entertainers Kartel had been working with, it was disheartening to watch her music be given away despite her dedication to both her craft and Kartel. Mon Chérie added that she has not yet received any returns on her investment in her partnership with Kartel in regards to travelling and working with the artiste in Jamaica.
Sharing how highly she considered her partnership with Kartel, Mon Chérie shared that she once believed the Summer Time Deejay would have been there for her, similar to Jay-Z and Beyoncé or Young Money and Nicki Minaj. Mon Chérie expressed her belief that Kartel was placing Jamaican singers above other artistes because of his patriotism. According to Mon Chérie, she and Kartel do not have a formal business agreement, mainly due to his incarceration.
