Reggae legend Capleton has been granted a work visa to perform in the UK after 13 years. This announcement was made by the entertainer who was in a celebratory mood as he announced his anticipation to perform for his UK fans soon.
The Rastafarian is currently on tour in Europe and will be wrapping up his last performance on November 17 in France at the Élysée Montmartre Performing Arts Theatre. Following this, reports are that the entertainer will be touring the UK in the Spring of 2024.
This opportunity for the reggae veteran is said to have been made possible by Cabel Stephenson and Tameka Reynolds of Free People Entertainment. According to the Jamaica Gleaner, Capleton’s humanitarian efforts and acceptance of a person’s sexual orientation were used as supporting factors despite the many doubts.
Previously, the Fire Man was critiqued for his violent anti-gay songs. In 2007, the ‘Stand Tall‘ artiste amongst other Jamaican musicians signed the Reggae Compassionate Act, vowing not to sing songs discriminating against anyone based on their sexual preferences. However, years later, people continued to refute Capleton’s position on this, stating that signing the Act was just a mere formality.
The Jamaican Reggae veteran’s career started in the late 1980s and is best known for songs such as ‘Bumbo Red,’ ‘Number One on the Look Good Chart,’ ‘No Lotion Man,’ ‘Who Dem’, ‘Tour,’ and many others.
