One of Jamaica’s top female sprinters of all time, Elaine Thompson-Herah competed in the 400 metres race for women at John Wolmer(JW) Speed Fest at the National Stadium in Kingston.
This was her first 400 metre race for this athletics season and she seemingly went on the track with a personal goal that did not involve finishing the race in first place or if she did, she would have failed at that goal. Elaine Thompson-Herah finished the race in 5th place.
Realistically, it would appear that the race was a warm-up for the five-time Olympic champion and a chance for locals and youngsters to see her in action.
Thompson-Herah started off the race at full speed, however, slowed down after about 300 metres into the race which led to four runners passing her before the finish line.
Elaine Thompson-Herah is the fastest woman alive over the 100 metres distance, and the third-fastest ever over 200 metres distance.
According to Athleticsja, “The JW Speed Fest is the final Development Meet before Boys & Girls Champs 2023 and performances here serve as qualifiers for 2023 Champs.”
