A hunter’s aid was fatally shot over the weekend in St. James when the hunter he was assisting accidentally shot him under his arm, per reports.
The victim has been identified as Marlon Antonio ‘Nash’ Davis, a resident of Cary Park, and has been described as a loving and jovial man. While Davis was a woodcarver by profession, on Saturday he was working as a hunting aid with a group of individuals at a ‘bird bush’ in Vally, St. James.
This year’s bird shooting season commenced on Saturday and is scheduled to continue for six weekends. Reports state that Davis and his group were participating in a bird shooting activity at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the incident occurred.
According to the Jamaica Star, one of the hunters allegedly lost his balance and accidentally discharged his weapon. Davis was hit under his armpit, and despite being immediately rushed to the hospital, he died from his injuries while being treated.
Davis, the youngest of four children of his mother, Nora Walters, leaves behind a common-law wife and a daughter. Lamenting the loss of her son, Walters shared on Sunday that she had not yet told the 15-year-old about her father’s passing.
“Mi nuh know what mi fi seh to har [ … ] Him nuh live fi see him daughter go back a school September, oh Jesus! Marlon gone, oh God,” Walters stated.
She disclosed that doctors were unable to save Davis because of the multiple pellets, “skatta shot,” that hit his vital organs. Walters also shared that Davis used the money he earned from going to bird bush to assist her when she could not pay her bills.
According to Walters, Davis was previously injured during the 2023 hunting season and hurt his leg.
“Right now him have steel in him foot. A one year now him bruk him foot a bud bush and now him dead a bird bush,” the grieving mother said.
