Reggae Boyz Up Two Places In New Fifa Rankings

As per the latest Fifa rankings update on June 20, Jamaica Men’s National football team jumped two places, from 55ft to 53rd right before their opening match of the Copa America tournament against Mexico which ranks at 15.

While Jamaican has moved two places better than before, Mexico lost a spot, moving from 14 to 15 with Uruguay taking the 14th spot.

Jamaica’s best Fifa rank was 27, back in 1998 when they went to their first and only World Cup, on the other hand, Mexico’s best rank on the list was 4th spot. The Reggae Boyz’ average rank is 60th.

on the other hand, the Reggae Girlz are ranked 42nd with the latest update being on June 14, 2024. The Girlz did not move from their last spot and their best rank was 37th in August of 2024 after they made it to the round of 16 in the Women’s World Cup.

Argentina, the World Cup winner and Copa America defending champion is currently the number one(1st) ranked team in the world, followed by France in 2nd and Belgium in 3rd. Check out the top 10 ranked countries by Fifa below:

Heading into Copa America, at 55th in the world, Jamaica was the third lowest-ranked team with only Bolivia and Paraguay ranking lower.

Currently, Jamaica‘s squad consists of defensive players such as Shaquan Davis, Andre Blake, Coniah Boyce-Clarke, and Jahmali Waite, along with defenders Dexter Lembikisa, Di’Shon Bernard, Greg Leigh, Damion Lowe, Michael Hector, Richard King, Ethan Pinnock, Wesley Harding, Amari’i Bell and Jon Bell.

The team’s midfielders will feature Kasey Palmer, Karoy Anderson, Bobby Reid, Alex Marshall, Joel Latibeadiere, and Kevon Lambert. The attackers include Shamar Nicholson, Renaldo Cephas, Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray and Kaheim Dixon.
