Security Guard Beaten in Attempted Robbery of ATM Machine in Mandeville

An armed group of men beat a National Commercial Bank (NCB) security guard at Bank House Mall in Mandeville on Tuesday morning following an attempt to rob the ATM. The incident adds to the increasing number of security guards on the island that has suffered some form of physical harm in the line of duty since the start of the new year.

A number of security guards have also lost their lives as a result of the increasing number of armed robberies being carried out across Jamaica.

It has been confirmed by a police source that the incident took place at about 2:00 am on Tuesday. The source also revealed that the guard, who was on duty, was physically assaulted after the Gunmen attacked him. The security guard had to be transported to a hospital for treatment. The condition or the severity of the injuries sustained by the security guard was not revealed.

As per reports, the Gunmen damaged the ATM, but they did not succeed in removing any money from it. As a result, Manchester police have increased their patrols around the area of ATMs and money couriers in order to deter robberies.

This news comes on the heels of the daylight attack on a Beryllium van transporting over $23 million last Sunday in Portmore, St Catherine, three guards were shot and injured in that incident, as the robbers got away with a sum of $23 million in cash.
