54YO Teacher Suspected of Having Sex With a Minor Commits Suicide
A 54-year-old former Florida high school teacher who was arrested and charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student committed suicide by shooting himself. The deceased, Charles Maglio, died from an “Intraoral gunshot wound,” according to the report from the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Maglio committed suicide on October 1 in Coral Springs. The police found a firearm on his body and a suicide letter at his home.
The 54-year-old math teacher formerly taught at Wellington Community High School. He was arrested in September for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a minor.
According to the report from People, Maglio and the female student had slept at his apartment and had sex there “several times.” This was what the student told law enforcers during the investigation, which began in December 2022. The investigation was launched after flowers were sent to a restaurant where the teen was employed.
The teenage girl told the investigators that her relationship with the suspect began after she started visiting his classroom after school, leading to them exchanging messages on social media.
When Maglio’s apartment was searched, the investigators found clothes, including underwear, that were worn by the teenager. Subsequent test results confirmed that Maglio’s DNA was on the underwear. During a monitored call, Maglio reportedly told the teen that he was in love with her and added, “I always saw you as a woman. I’m not a predator.”
All charges leveled against the deceased were dropped following his death. The charges Maglio had been facing were an offence against a student by an authority figure and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
