In 2008, Bolt ran one of his most outstanding races in front of athletics fans at the Beijing Olympics. Fresh off of his 100m record-setting victory, Bolt, hungry for even more Olympic glory, lowered his best time in the 200m from 19.67 seconds to an astonishing 19.30 seconds. The then-21-year-old sprinter had set a new Olympic and world record, beating United States sprinter Michael Johnson’s long-standing record of 19.32 seconds, set at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, by 0.02 seconds.

The young sprinter, determined to outperform himself, topped that time the following year in 2009 at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. Bolt, running against fellow Jamaican Steve Mullings and American sprinters Wallace Spearmon, Charles Clark, and Shawn Crawford, exuded confidence at the beginning of the race, telling his rivals, “Come get me.” That, however, proved to be a difficult task, with Bolt blasting down the track and easily pulling out ahead of his fellow competitors. The sprinting legend had once again outdone himself, lowering his pass record to 19.19 seconds.

Bolt, truly a titan in the world of athletics, still holds the 200m Olympic record with 19.30 seconds and the world record with 19.19 seconds.
