Family Identifies Remains of Man Discovered Inside Shark’s Stomach in Argentina

Following his disappearance earlier this month, the remains of 35-year-old Diego Alejandro Barría were identified by his family after his body was reportedly discovered inside a shark’s stomach.

According to reports from the New York Post, the Argentine was last seen driving along the coast in southern Chubut province in his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on February 18. Barría’s vehicle and helmet were discovered heavily damaged two days later on a beach in Rocas Coloradas, but the father of three was missing.

Police launched a search for Barría, with his partner Virginia Brugger imploring searchers to find him and bring him back home.

“Thank you to all who are helping search for Diego and praying for him. We are all praying that he will appear soon, don’t stop praying for him, let’s not lose faith. Don’t leave him alone, bring me Diego,” Brugger wrote on Facebook.

Six days later, a group of fishermen informed the police that they had caught a dogfish shark with human remains inside of it near where Barría’s vehicle was found. The recovered remains were examined at a local morgue, and they were identified by Barría’s family, who recognized the tattoo on his dismembered arm. A pair of sunglasses were also discovered near Barría’s quad bike, which his mother identified as his.

The incident is still under investigation, and according to reports, officials will analyze the remains for DNA to officially confirm that it is Barría. Barría’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but due to the damage found on his vehicle, officials believe that he may have been knocked unconscious and then dragged away by the strong tide on the coast.
