On Wednesday, July 31, court proceedings related to the longest murder trial in Jamaica’s history recommenced to announce the scheduled ruling on whether or not the accused men Shawn Storm, Andre St. John, Kahira Jones and Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer will be freed of the charges or go to re-trial.
As per the speaker who presented the ruling, a unanimous decision was reached in favour of releasing the accused men. According to Isat Buchanan, the men are expected to be freed today, if not today, very soon.
Shawn Storm, Andre St. John, Kahira Jones, and Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer have been incarcerated for over a decade for the Killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Willams. The decision, handed down in the Court of Appeal in Downtown Kingston brought an end to a matter that has been going on for over 13 years.
The audio feed from Wednesday’s court proceeding was made available online, in handing down the judgement, the speaker stated, “we have considered all the factors,” on whether a new trial should be done, “the court is therefore satisfied” with the decision against a new trial.
