Green Meadows, Clarendon, was left reeling Sunday night after a chilling sequence of events claimed the life of Derrick “Jim” Morgan, a 62-year-old truck driver. The tragic incident unfolded around 9:20 p.m., beginning with a fire at a neighbour’s house.
Morgan’s wife, who had just arrived home, noticed the blaze and went to investigate. However, she was ambushed by two masked men dressed in dark clothing. The assailants robbed her at gunpoint, taking her cell phone and forcing her back into her house.
Minutes later, Morgan, returning from a domino game, stopped to check on the same fire. Tragically, he became the gunmen’s next target. He was attacked and shot multiple times, with gunshot wounds to his head and back as reported by Jamaica Observer.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Morgan lying face down near the burning home. He was rushed to the May Pen Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The neighbour whose home was set ablaze was reportedly not present at the time. The motive behind the arson and subsequent violent acts remains unclear.
Police investigations are ongoing.
