Grange To Improve The Development Of Motorsport In Jamaica

Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, Jamaica’s Minister of Sport, reports that deliberation is being had with the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club and the Jamaica Karting Association so that the development of local motorsport can continue. Grange spoke during a visit to her New Kingston Office on Friday, August 19 when she was visited by Alex Powell, a young Jamaican karting star.
Powell, only fourteen years of age, has achieved an exceptional karting career by coming out on top in the highly competitive four race FIA Karting European Championships that took place in July, and ranking third place in another.
The young competitor stamped his name in history by becoming the first Caribbean driver to sign to a F1 team at the tender age of 11. He is also set to compete in the illustrious FIA Karting World Championships taking place next month from September 15 to 18 in Sarno Italy. In regard to the racing accomplishments of Powell, Grange stated that he has brought tremendous pride to Jamaica and will surely continue to nourish the sport locally.
