Ahead of the release of his album later this year, I-Octane has marked his return to his contemplative Reggae roots with his new collaborative single featuring Shane O titled ‘Opportunist’ which was released with a music video on YouTube.

In addition to being a collaborative single, I-Octane has turned Opportunist into a family affair, with the artiste’s five-year-old daughter, Nahbi Reign, serving as one of the producers of the song. The young producer has been showcasing her skills as a budding musical talent under her label NiNi Records.

Another creative included in the project was the much sought-after director Bling Blang who directed Opportunist’s music video. Under Bling Blang’s direction, I-Octane and Shane O flee the opportunities in their lives and close the figurative door on their past lives in the song’s black-and-white music video.

In addition to the music video’s symbolism about closing the chapter on his past, I-Octane reinforces this as he outlines via lyrics an end to letting people take advantage of him.

“Opportunist unu loose mi. A di last time unu a guh use mi. Right now myself come first. Right now myself come first. Unu can call mi mister selfish. Di amount a tings weh mi guh through weh mi dealt with,” I-Octane sings on the track.

As Shane O lends his vocals to the single he calls out opportunists posing as friends.

“So opportunist work. Si dem yuh know di fakes. Smile wid yuh fi yuh tings. Watch out fi snakes. Dis a nuh one time. The using stop,” Shane O deejays in his verse of the song.

Opportunist has so far garnered over 542,371 views on YouTube since its release on February 7.

While I-Octane has been focusing on his Dancehall ‘Hot Ras’ persona over the past five years, 2025 will see him return to his more heartfelt and introspective lyrical content. If Opportunist is a testament to the artiste’s deep connection to reality and his craft, then his upcoming album God & I is sure to deliver on the contemplative Reggae music that fans first fell in love with.

God & I has been described as a deeply personal project for the Lose a Friend singer and will feature 15 songs when released later this year. The album was managed by Wendy Morgan of Beautiful People Management and distributed by MusicXchange.

I-Octane has promised a project that blends songs of both reflection and resilience.
