Gay Jamaican Asylum seeker allegedly killed a US man at a Party

On the brink of being granted asylum in the United States a Jamaican gay man was arrested and placed in custody by the police on Wednesday for the stabbing of another homosexual in New York last month at a house party.

According to the New York Daily News, Dead is 29 year old Derrick Willliams of Brooklyn at the hands of the accused Mckoy Dove a 23 years old resident of Bronx, New York.

The events unfolded on the 29th of May, Mckoy Dove was apprehended by the police since earlier this week, Dove was on the run for approximately 3 weeks after reportedly stabbing Williams in his mouth “with a garlic-coated ice pick”. He was held in Yorktown, New York some 45 miles outside of New York City.

In connection to the death of Williams, Mckoy Dove was charged with manslaughter and possession of the weapons used to carry out the criminal act.

Reports are that on May 29th, sometime after midnight, Diego Best, who played the role of host of the house party announced that the event described as “a gathering of friends”, was over after an incident where bottles were being thrown.

The York Daily News in an interview with Williams’ boyfriend, Oddain Nixon, found out that things had become tense at the party according to “the romantic entanglements of Dove and two other guests, leading to a scuffle that escalated quickly.”

After which, Nixon and Dove reportedly got caught up in a tussle on the sidewalk for which the cause is still unclear.

As reported by Nixon to New York Daily News “McKoy flew up in my face and started fighting me,”.

He further explained that “Derrick (Williams) didn’t know anything about what was going on. He came out of nowhere and ran right into the ice pick … No one jumped McKoy (Dove). No one ran after McKoy. It just didn’t happen that way,”.

Reports are that Dove who is said to have befriended the victim before that particular night, plunged the ice pick into the mouth of Williams and fled the scene.

Nixon further mentioned that the accused “soaked the ice pick in garlic so that the victim wouldn’t feel the impact”, adding “That’s what they do back home in Jamaica.”

Derrick Williams collapsed on the sidewalk afterwards and was rushed to the hospital for treatment but later died. Dove’s lawyer Mihea Kim at the first appearance before the Brooklyn Criminal Court on Wednesday “described the killing as self-defense”, and further mentioned that the reason that led to her client being in hiding was due to death threats that were being received.

A description of Dove’s life was given by the lawyer and painted his experience as being traumatic.

“When he (Dove) was 13 (in Jamaica), his father found out he was gay and beat him with a machete,” Said Kim to the court, further adding that “He was disowned and beaten by his mother and lived on the streets. When he was 19, a group of people shouting homosexual obscenities shot up the house where he was staying, murdering his boyfriend.”

The attorney at law representing the accused informed the court that Dove fled Jamaica and went to Panama and Mexico before reaching San Diego, United States, where he sought asylum from the authorities.

Kim stated that “He was in a federal detention centre for six months,”.
Kim also noted to the presiding judge that on record Dove’s criminal history was clean. She also made it clear that her client went through a three-year process and was now on the verge of receiving Asylum in the US this August.

It was later ordered by the Judge that Dove would continue to be held without bail.

The next court date is currently not decided for Dove to answer to the allegations laid against him.
