Following the release of his highly anticipated second album, Generation of Kings, Dancehall artiste Masicka has secured spot #1 on the US iTunes reggae chart.
Generation of Kings follows Masicka’s debut album, 438. Released independently through Genasyde/1Syde Records on December 3, 2021, 438 was highly praised by fans and considered a standout among the Dancehall albums released that year.
The artiste, known for songs such as Stay Strong and They Don’t Know, later announced in 2022 that his next album would be coming very soon. After several months of teasing the project’s completion and release day, Masicka released Generation of Kings on Friday, ahead of the second anniversary of 438.
Despite his death over four decades ago, reggae legend Bob Marley remains a challenge for the current generation of artistes to supersede on the international charts. However, Masicka’s Generation of Kings has surpassed the music icon’s posthumous compilation album, Legend, securing both the #1 and #2 spots on the US iTunes reggae charts. Sharing a screenshot of his charting success, Masicka expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post and vowed to keep working.
“The work never stop. We forever grateful. Swamp nuh ramp. Memba gud. Generation of kings,” Masicka wrote.
Generation of Kings was produced by Def Jam Recordings and is comprised of 17 tracks: Black Sheep, Stars R Us featuring Popcaan, Reverse Time, March On featuring Dexta Daps, Triumph featuring Chronic Law & Lila Iké, Angels Don’t Cry, Most Wanted, WOW featuring Spice, Fight For Us, Carbon, Rainfall, District 1 (Rifle), Broken Home, Wet featuring Fridayy, Waterfall, and Masicka’s previously released singles Limelight and Tyrant.
Generation of Kings has already begun garnering praise from listeners, with the deejay and his single District 1 currently trending on Twitter/X.
“Masicka album Isn’t just about the music. The arrangement of each song is so pure and creative,” ZJ Romzii of Zip 103 FM said, praising the album.
Another fan of the project stated, “Very intricate if you listen District 1 carefully how the lyrics flow with the melody… the arrangement of the piano and sax plus the chords at the end. Magnificent man.”
