Almost a year after going viral for her unsanitary act at Crab Circle, controversial vendor Alice Waugh is facing a hefty fine or potential prison time if it is not paid in full.

Known for its crab and corn stands, Crab Circle at the National Heroes Circle in Kingston was closed down by the Ministry of Health last October after a video of Waugh cleansing herself of excrement behind a stall went viral. While Waugh had initially planned her return to the once-popular food location, she was banned from the food spot by the then Mayor of Kingston, Delroy Williams.

Not only is Waugh incapable of returning to the location where she worked for years, but she will now have to pay off a hefty fine or spend time in prison. According to the Jamaica Star, on Wednesday the vendor was fined for breaching the Public Health Act.

Waugh, who had pleaded guilty in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, was ordered to pay $250,000 for the breach. Additionally, Waugh was informed by Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, who imposed the fine, that if the sum was not paid off, she would face 30 days in prison.

Reacting to Waugh’s fine, one social media user expressed that the vendor will now have to pay what she could have invested in her business. “If yuh could a just go bathroom, this money could actually help you extend your business,” the user wrote.

Another expressed that what happened to Waugh would serve as an example to others. “Consequences with teeth sends a strong message and help to deter bad behavior. That’s good for her. Di rest a uuuu, tek heed!”
