Following the release of his debut album, 438, dancehall artiste Javaun Fearon, professionally known as Masicka, has announced that his follow-up album is finished.
Masicka has gained dominance with hits such as Update and Image, and the Portmore native has come a long way since the release of his 2018 EP, Start from the Grung. It has been less than a year and a half since the debut of 438, but the History deejay is nearing the release of his second studio album.
Masicka announced that his latest project was finished on Wednesday via Twitter after teasing new music on Sunday. His fans have reacted positively to the news, with one Twitter user writing, “Impatiently waiting for my Spotify notification. All d spliff bill already!”
Masicka released his debut album on December 3, 2021. The album featured 16 tracks and was released independently through Genasyde/1Syde Records before the artiste’s contract with New York-based recording label Def Jam Recordings. Masicka announced his partnership with Def Jam in February. In terms of what influence the well-known record label will have on the Suicide Note deejay’s new project, fans have expressed their hopes that Masicka’s music remains the same.
438 was praised by Masicka’s supporters and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, spending seven weeks on the Top 10 chart. This is a feat not easily accomplished by many veterans in his genre. The project featured collaborations with Popcaan, Stefflon Don, Sean Paul, and Dexta Daps.
