As Confirmed by Christopher Phillips, police commander Senior Superintendent, nine individuals were accosted and shot, with three of the targeted persons dying at the scene.
The incident took place in Spring Village in Old Harbour, St Catherine earlier this afternoon. Phillips reported that the gunmen ambushed the victims at a playing field.
Reportedly, employees of a popular Jamaican company and members of the community were engaged in a peaceful bonding moment, when the football field get-together took a turn for the worse. A woman and two men were left dead.
Police reports state that around 5:10 PM, Staff members from various departments at the St. Catherine-based company assembled at the football field to take part in interdepartmental activities. The festivities were ruined, however, when a shower of bullets rained down on the unsuspecting participants by undetermined assailants.
Reports also revealed that a number of cars occupied by the shooters pulled up to where the football game was in progress, disembarked from the vehicles, and opened fire. Authorities mentioned that at least two of the deceased belonged to the company.
Subsequent to the mass shooting, police presence in the area has increased but the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has not yet arrived at a motive that led to the triple murder. They are, however, assiduously trying to solve the puzzle with the evidence presented in order to discern the identity of the attackers.
