Veteran Dancehall artiste Beenie Man recently released a single titled “King of Dancehall” on the Domino Riddim that was produced by PantaSon Music Production Limited / TipGod Music.
At the start of the song, an upbeat tempo is heard where Beenie Man then starts by saying “Am doing this, so many years, so many tears”. As he transitions further along in the song, the veteran starts to lists why he is the undefeated and reigning holder of the coveted Dancehall King title since 1976.
In the song, the veteran deejay mentioned winning the Tastee talent show in the 1980’s and being crowned artiste of the year ten times. He went further to list his many prolific accomplishments such as receiving three Grammy nominations and being a Grammy winner. He also sang about his three MOBO Awards, which is an annual British music award presentation honouring achievements in “music of black origin” and his many billboard hits.
Additionally, Beenie Man mentioned how he has seen “nuff rise, some fall, man still stand tall”. Seemingly, the entertainer is making mention to the many artistes that have came in the industry but have been unable to stay relevant, whereas he, still remains.
Throughout the song, Beenie Man could be heard repeating the words “A King a di Dancehall, mi wave di flag tall”.
On the other hand, Vybz Kartel has professed himself to be the current King of the dancehall, he also has it in text on his Instagram, as shown below.
