Things got intense in a Louisville, Kentucky courtroom when family members of two victims attacked the man on trial accused of being responsible for their deaths. The deceased are 25-year-old Alexis McCrary and 26-year-old Edward Smith.
In a court video footage, 31-year-old Paul Wade is seen being carried to his holding cell by an officer when he reportedly hurled expletives at the victims’ families while passing the gallery. That is when a brawl erupted as persons attacked the defendant, some even hopping over the railing.
However, Wade managed to escape through an open door behind the judge which leads to her chambers, but that did not stop family members from continuing their pursuit. Deputies followed them along the way, using pepper spray to diffuse the situation.
During this 20-minute scuffle, Jefferson County District Court Judge, Annie Haynie sat helpless on her bench while trying to maintain order in the court as she called several times for help. She also reportedly pressed the panic button which summoned more deputies to the courtroom.
Four of the family members have been arrested and are facing misdemeanour charges; disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental operations.
Wade reportedly did not receive any injuries from the incident and his case is currently pending.
