A distressed mother made an emergency call to report that her baby was not breathing. Born four months premature, little Laker Carlson was afflicted with a birth defect called Spina Bifida, which is a condition where the spinal cords do not form properly and are exposed through a hole in the back.
Deputy Jonte Slack from the Ingram County Sheriff’s Office stated, “When I got there he was pale, his fangs were blue, he was not breathing, there were no signs of life.”
A police officer performs child CPR until the baby starts breathing again and a defibrillator was attached to assist with his heartbeat.
Police bodycam footage shows that the incident took place on May 13, 2023.
The baby’s father, Matthew Carlson, stated that he was terrified when he heard the news and called his baby a “miracle.”
