On December 29, 2022, the legend of football and Brazilian great Pelé who won three World Cups in his career, passed away at age 82. During Pele’s entire career, his mother Celeste played a significant role, and now that the global legend has succumbed, we are reminded of a few of the memories they shared.
Pele recently celebrated his mother Celeste’s 100th birthday, and to honour her, he wrote a post on Instagram.
“I have over a hundred reasons to be thankful for being her son,” he expressed. “Thank you for every day by your side, Mom.”
Pele’s mother was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, but the family relocated to Bauru while Pele was still a young child. After receiving encouragement from his mother and late father to follow his aspirations in football, he made progress in his youth years.
Prior to the 1966 FIFA World Cup, Pele was practising with the Brazilian National Team when he spotted his mother who had shown up abruptly at the practice facilities. He immediately raced to embrace her.
