Former Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller is recovering at home after being hospitalised for some days for an undisclosed illness. Dr Angela Brown-Burke, the PNP chairman, revealed the information regarding the former PNP president today.
Brown-Burke expressed her gratitude to those who sent love and well wishes for Simpson Miller while telling the reporters that she was released from the hospital.
“We are pleased to say that she is recuperating at home and that all those prayers, concerns and love that have been shown that they are well and truly appreciated,” Brown-Burke said.
Brown-Burke also disclosed that Simpson Miller was “doing well and is being supported by a capable medical team and her loved ones.”
Simpson-Miller was elected as Jamaica’s first female prime minister in 2006 and served the PNP for more than 40 years. Simpson Miller presided as president of the party from 2005 to 2017. After the former prime minister’s departure from politics in 2017, Brown-Burke took over as the representative for St. Andrew South Western.
The PNP previously revealed that Simpson-Miller was transported to a hospital in the Corporate Area last Thursday. While the PNP said she needed “non-emergency care,” there was a rising concern as word of her hospitalisation started circulating online. Individuals in Jamaica and the Diaspora have been wishing her well via social media.
