Following the Jamaica Reggae Boyz’ recent friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors, head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has listed his 23-player squad for their CONCACAF Nations League match against Mexico.
The Boyz were unable to secure a win during their two-day international friendlies against the fellow Caribbean nation on March 11th and 14th at the Cathrine Hall Stadium and the National Stadium in Kingston, respectively. They were defeated 1-0 in their first friendly, with their second game ending in a draw.
Hallgrimsson, who has not yet registered a win with the national team since taking over as head coach, has described his matches with the Boyz so far as a means of assessing the more seasoned players as well as the first-time call-ups for the senior squad, whose mettle has not yet been tested.
Hallgrimsson’s new 23-man squad will see several players from the Trinidad friendlies return and new call-ups.
The Wolves’ Dexter Lembiksia, Dunbeholden’s Demario Phillips, Mount Pleasant’s Trivante Stewart, Cavelier’s Richard King, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Jahmali Waite, D.C. United’s Ravel Morrison, and former Watford member Adrian Mariappa will return for the Boyz’ upcoming match against Mexico.
The remainder of the squad will consist of Amari’i Bell, Jamal Lowe, Ethan Pinnock, Jonathan Russell, Bobby Reid, Kevon Lambert, Corey Burke, Damion Lowe, Daniel Johnson, Kaheem Parris, Shamar Nicholson, Coniah Boyce-Clarke, Amal Knight, Javian Brown, Kemar Lawrence, Leon Bailey, and first-time senior call-up Jonathan Russell.
The Reggae Boyz currently top their group with five points, with Mexico second with four. Their match is slated for Sunday, March 26, at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City, with a scheduled kick-off time of 7:00 p.m. (JA/EST) and 8:00 p.m. (ET).
