Moments before the 200m heat number two began at the 2024 Olympics, it was announced that Shericka Jackson would not be taking part in the event. Jackson who was scheduled to run in heat three in lane four also pulled out of the Women’s 100m days ago.
This latest blow for the Jamaicans comes on the heels of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce pulling out of the women’s 100m semi-finals, after advancing seemingly comfortably from the heats round, the day prior.
However, Jackson who is currently the reigning 200m world champion, seemingly is about to leave the games without competing in any race, despite being a favourite for the 200m coming into the 2024 Games.
Jackson is yet to comment on the matter.
In early July, Jackson took part in a Women’s 200m race in Hungry, however, close to the finish line she stopped with a grimacing face. That race cast doubts that she would be ready for the Olympics.
Fellow Jamaicans Niesha Burgher and Lanae-Tava Thomas advanced to the semi-finals in the 200m after they finished second in their respective heats.
On Saturday, Jackson took top Instagram and wrote, “God’s plan is always the best. Sometimes the process is painful and hard. But don’t forget that when God is silent, he is doing something good for you.”
