Manchester United Striker Mason Greenwood Arrested on Sex Assault Charge

Twenty-year-old Manchester United Striker Mason Greenwood has been arrested. The footballer was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of rape and assault. The (GMP) Greater Manchester Police have reported that they were on Monday given an extension to question him.

Greenwood was arrested on Sunday when social media images of him and videos reporting incidents of physical violence, were posted by a woman. The force states that following inquiries a woman is being given ‘specialist support’.

The courts have granted an extension to keep him detained until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, many of the top names in the sporting arena have been distancing themselves from the footballer. EA Sports, a Video game developer, has removed him from FIFA products and from Active Squads in FIFA 22 he is also suspended from Ultimate Team packs Ultimate Draft and sportswear giant Nike.

A spokesman from Nike stated that they were deeply concerned by the allegations against Greenwood and that they would be monitoring the situation closely. Manchester United on Sunday admitted that they were made aware of the charges but they would reserve their comments until all the “facts have been established”.

The club is condemning violence of any kind.

Greenwood made his first appearance for the club back in March of 2019 and signed a four-year contract in February 2021 after rising through the academy.

Word from the Manchester United camp is that the striker will not train or suit up for the club until further notice.
