Reports state that the 17-year-old mother was preparing to put the baby to sleep when she mixed a bottle of baby formula. The teen reportedly retrieved a pill bottle from the bathroom containing what she thought at the time was cocaine and added it to the baby’s formula.

She put the infant to sleep, but officers were later called to the home after the child would not wake up. The infant was later pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

The baby boy’s death was officially ruled a fentanyl overdose on Monday by the medical examiner. The examiner disclosed that the infant had 27 nanograms of fentanyl in his system, enough to kill ten people.
