Black Adam is a 2022 aired American superhero film that narrates the trials and lifestyle of a persona named Black Adam. This particular character originates from the DC Comic Universe. Alongside WWE Wrestler, The Rock, Napier assumes the role of Magician Number 2, which is a part not unfamiliar to the Jamaican actor as he played similar roles in motion pictures such as A Song For My Brothers and Late Bloomer Missing Puddin’.
Sharing a recount of how he was able to get the part, Napier stated, “I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and it was either myself or agent that sent up myself for the role once we saw that there was an opening. I got the audition and did a self-tape and within a week I got it.” He also conveyed differences and challenges of his new role, mentioning that in order to embody the assigned role, he had to memorize chants that were akin to ancient Egyptian rituals and learn a new language.
Black Adam started screening in theaters on Friday, October 21, 2022 but has so far accumulated around US$60M – US$62M, which would make the movie The Rock’s most successful domestic debut film with the exception of The Mummy Returns in 2001, which clocked US$68M when it first screened.
The events of the movie occur in 2600 BC and tell the tale of Black Adam, an ancient Egyptian named Teth-Adam (translating to “Mighty Human”). The inordinate wizard Shazam, after 5,000 years, chose Adam to be his inheritor. Justice Society’s Hawkman, the present day hero, is presented with Adam’s rage-fueled brand of justice.
Still riding the high from the prosperity of his latest project, Napier revealed that he is setting his sights on making a comeback to the acting scene and relayed that he was also trying to land a role in a Tyler Perry production that remains unnamed.
